Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic disorder with persistent acid production in the stomach that often occurs more than two months after the last meal. GERD is often the first symptom of gastritis, the most common cause of heartburn. GERD often leads to frequent nighttime heartburn. The symptoms of GERD are often persistent and often affect the throat.
For adults and children over 12 years, the recommended adult dose of Nexium 40 mg delayed-release capsules is 40 mg, taken as needed for 14 days.
